Gamay

Gamay is a very old vine variety. It can be traced back to the 3rd Century in the Lyon area. In Valais, it appeared in the 19th Century when it went by the name of Grosse Dôle. It is now a red wine which is greatly appreciated by consumers and wine experts.

Vine variety: Gamay.
Colour: Deep, dark ruby purple.
Fragrance: Blackcurrant, strawberry, raspberry, banana.
Taste: Very fruity, refined, light and pleasant.
Alcohol: 13 % vol.
Ideal serving temperature: 14-16°C
Preservation: 5 to 10 years.
Fermentation: Left to over ferment in vats.
Name: AOC Valais.
Culinary accompaniments: Cold meats, bœuf bourguignon, stew, traditional dried meats from Valais, porc chops, roast beef and cheese.
